Description
Synopsis The USAID West Bank and Gaza Mission seeks to implement a three-year project to provide youth with new employment opportunities leading to a reduction in unemployment among 15-30 year olds. The project objective is to enhance youth employability and make vocational and technical (V&T) careers viable options for Palestinian youth. This activity is intended to enhance the employability of youth and consequently provides income-generation opportunities to lower-income sectors of society. There are two prongs to the project: the first of these focuses on the introduction of reform initiatives to the vocational and technical education system in the West Bank and Gaza that will allow improvement in quality of education leading mainly to making it become more relevant and effective in meeting the labor market’s needs. The project will contribute to modernization of facilities, standardization of curricula, initiation of policy dialogue among stakeholders, and institutionalization of educational development. The second prong seeks to develop new vocational and technical career pathways outside the formal V&T sector—identifying appropriate businesses that can support apprenticeship programs, developing training partnerships, and other similar activities that may be identified and developed. This activity supports Mission’s 2005 Supplemental and Strategic Program Objective–“Support a New Palestinian Generation”.
