Grants Available through California Prescription Drug Settlement Case: Deadline to Apply is November 17th, 2005
PRESCRIPTION DRUG SETTLEMENT FUNDS TO BENEFIT CONSUMERS
Attorney General Lockyer is now soliciting applications from eligible nonprofit organizations and public agencies for grants to make prescription drugs for the treatment of anxiety available and affordable to low and moderate income consumers in California.
Grants totaling approximately $1.8 million are being made available as part of an antitrust settlement with Mylan Laboratories over alleged monopolization of the generic drugs lorazepam and clorazepate, used to treat anxiety, tension and insomnia.
Under the settlement agreement, the funds are to be distributed to nonprofit organizations and/or public agencies in a manner reasonably targeted to specifically benefit the health care needs of a substantial number of California consumers injured by the increased prices of lorazepam and clorazepate in 1998 and 1999. Grants will range in size from $150,000 to $500,000 and will be for a maximum of two years.
