Children Exposed to Domestic Violence

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has partnered with the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and the Office for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to bring you a Web Forum discussion on assisting children exposed to domestic violence. Join co-hosts Dr. David Finkelhor and Betsy McAlister Groves on October 25, 2006, at 2 p.m. (eastern time) for the live discussion.

David Finkelhor, Ph.D., is Director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center, Co-Director of the Family Research Laboratory, and a professor of sociology at the University of New Hampshire. He has been studying the problems of child victimization, child maltreatment, and family violence since 1977. In his recent work, Dr. Finkelhor has tried to unify and integrate knowledge about all the diverse forms of child victimization in a field he has termed "developmental victimology."

Betsy McAlister Groves is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the State of Massachusetts, is the Founding Director of the Child Witness to Violence Project at Boston Medical Center, and is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Boston University School of Medicine. She has served as a consultant with the National Center for Children Exposed to Violence and the Safe Start Initiative. Ms. Groves currently is on the Massachusetts Governor’s Commission on Domestic Violence and is a consultant to the Massachusetts Department of Social Services, the Massachusetts Judicial Institute, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Family Violence Prevention Fund.
