Tomorrow's Leaders Student Scholarship Program
The Office of the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) announces a limited competition Request for Applications (RFA) to provide four year, university-level scholarship and internship opportunities at select institutions of higher learning in the Middle East for future Arab leaders. The program is notionally titled the “Tomorrow’s Leaders” program. This represents a new MEPI funding initiative; submissions must contain detailed and comprehensive narratives outlining a program that will meet the objectives of the funding initiative. Funding awarded is expected to cover the cost of four years of university schooling (matriculation, lodging, and stipend) for each scholarship recipient, as well as the development and delivery of the special features of this unique leadership program.

USAID Director Glenn Anders Visits Pastoralist Community in Oromia State
Addis Ababa (U.S. Embassy) -- USAID Mission Director Glenn Anders paid a visit on October 13, 2006 to the pastoral community of Tuka in Borena Zone, Oromia State. Twelve elders of the local Borena group, along with the head of the local administration, discussed the condition of the pastoralist community in the area. The elders began by thanking Mr. Anders for the support of the people of the United States they received during the drought that occurred earlier in 2006.

Bulletproof Vests: Department Of Justice Announces Funding To Public Safety Officers for Bulletproof Vests
The Department of Justice today announced nearly $29 million in funding to over 4,500 law enforcement agencies across the nation for the purchase of bulletproof vests through the Department of Justice's Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program. The grant awards are expected to fund the purchase of over 213,000 vests for public safety officers nationwide.
