FEMA Preparing for Tropical Storm Dolly
Release Date: July 21, 2008
Release Number: FNF-08-064
As Tropical Storm Cristobal veers away from the Atlantic coast, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has begun preparations for Tropical Storm Dolly.
FEMA is closely monitoring the storm track of Tropical Storm Dolly. As Dolly moves into the Gulf of Mexico, FEMA is initiating preparations to respond to the storm should it make landfall on the southern Texas coast.
In response to the storm's development, FEMA has activated it's National Response Coordination Center (NRCC) in Washington and the Region Response Coordination Center in Denton, Texas. Two state liaison officers have been deployed to the Texas State Emergency Operations Center (SOC). An Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) has been deployed to the Initial Operating Facility in Austin to support the state with coordination of federal assets as needed. FEMA Mobile Emergency Response Support (MERS) has deployed a Mobile Emergency Operations Vehicle (MEOV) to the Alamo Regional Command Center in San Antonio. This equipment is used for power generation and satellite communications.
Individuals that live along the southern Texas coast should begin preparations now as landfall is forecast as early as Wednesday. Start by putting together an emergency supply kit (include identification, important insurance and financial documents, and prescriptions.) Make sure you have enough food and water for at least 72 hours. In addition, keep a supply of ice stored since it may only be distributed to health facilities or individuals with health and medical needs. Make sure you and your family have an emergency communications plan and pay attention to your local emergency management officials.
