The goal of this report is to improve the quality and usefulness of laboratory
services for genetic testing to achieve better health outcomes for the
public. Upon completion of this educational activity, the reader should be
able to 1) describe the recommended good laboratory practices for each of the
three phases of the molecular genetic testing process; 2) describe
qualifications, responsibilities, and competency of laboratory personnel; 3)
describe planning for introducing molecular genetic testing; and 4) describe
how to ensure the confidentiality of patient information in molecular genetic
testing for heritable diseases and conditions.
